MAJOR SHOW CATTLE

Built on Family Driven by Better Cattle

Built by family, strengthened by a dedicated team, and united by a shared commitment to raising better cattle

Our Story

Determined to do

Better

Our story began in the early 1990s, when Grandpa Howard Brinton gave my oldest brother, Eric, a bottle heifer calf to raise as his own. A few years later, that heifer produced Eric’s first show steer. The steer finished last in his class, and the judge explained that he needed more muscle, bone, and overall stoutness to be more competitive. My dad took that advice to heart, learned artificial insemination, and began breeding cows specifically to produce better show cattle for his 6 kids. Mom and dad were known to say "We are raising kids, not cattle!"

Mom’s passion for excellence and Dad’s willingness to support us led not only to better cattle, but also to six children who developed a lasting passion for agriculture and exhibiting livestock. For more than 20 years, the Major kids showed hundreds of cattle throughout the Intermountain West at county, state, and regional shows—always striving to improve, become better showmen, and represent our family as courteous, helpful exhibitors.

A fitting close to that chapter came in 2018, when Chet, the youngest of the Major kids, walked out of the show ring for the final time after exhibiting the Grand Champion Steer at the Utah State Fair—a steer whose genetics traced back to a Brinton cow.

A new Chapter

Fast Forward

In 2020, the Brinton Ranch was placed for sale. Determined to keep it in the family, Casey and Katlyn Major purchased the ranch through the FSA Young Farmer and Rancher Loan Program. Our goal was to carry forward more than 30 years of family breeding, continue improving those genetics, and build a cow herd capable of providing quality show calves to families beyond our own.

Today, Major Show Cattle is the continuation of that family legacy—built on generations of hard work, a commitment to better cattle, and a belief in what livestock can teach young people. As we grow, our goal remains simple: to raise sound, competitive cattle, support the families who trust our program, and create opportunities for the next generation to develop the same passion for agriculture that shaped our own family.
